Customer case studies

gridX

gridX (https://gridx.de), is the first truly digital and decentralized energy supplier that matches prosumers of renewable energy with consumers. The gridX gateway, called gridBox, is an Internet of Things device that interconnects renewables such as solar plants and storage systems, forming a decentralized network of energy as a virtual power plant.

Atomic updates with built-in rollback is a key requirement. We need to make sure our devices continue to work with automated rollback if the update didn’t take for any reason. Mender provided that crucial capability.

Joel Hermanns, CIO of gridX

IOTAS

IOTAS (http://www.iotashome.com), named a CES 2017 Innovation Awards Honoree for its IOTAS Smart Apartment Platform, is a Portland, Oregon based company that enables property developers to easily and quickly install smart outlets, switches, thermostats, door locks, sensors, and more by easing the setup and deployment process.

We tried a number of OTA tools and Mender was by far the easiest to integrate into our board. The Mender community was also very active which eased our concerns around support for this new product we are deploying.

Steven Osborn, Engineering Manager, IOTAS

Kinestral

Kinestral (https://www.kinestral.com) is transforming glass into responsive, intelligent, beautiful architectural elements that transition from clear to tinted to dark, automatically or on command. Kinestral is transforming architecture and design by offering a much more versatile architectural element for windows, skylights, and walls. Kinestral is transforming buildings, homes – and eventually cities – to be more sustainable, efficient, and beautiful.

Deploying software updates can induce a good amount of unease. With Mender, we can now confidently deploy OTA as security and reliability are central and not an afterthought.
