IoT for All Podcast: How to Succeed with IoT Software

| OTA, AI
In this episode of the IoT For All Podcast, Ryan Chacon and Eystein Måløy Stenberg discuss the realities of building, scaling, and supporting software-driven IoT products.

As IoT products become increasingly software-driven, OEMs are navigating growing pressure get new products to market faster, unlock new revenue streams, and optimize costs and ongoing product support. AI only accelerates this shift. According to McKinsey, 64% of organizations report AI is enabling their innovation, and more than half attribute improvements in customer satisfaction and competitive differentiation to AI.

However, the rapid innovation and shorter release cycles supporting IoT and AI product development also expose new gaps – how many organizations manage software, infrastructure, and post-launch responsibility. Indicative of these gaps, only 39% of organizations report EBIT impact at the enterprise level. While IoT and AI hold massive opportunities, it is clear more is required to transition that potential into tangible business benefit.

In this episode, Stenberg explores why time-to-market remains a persistent challenge for IoT product companies, how growing software complexity continues to hinder agility, and why building and maintaining existing infrastructure often creates friction rather than differentiation. Drawing on industry research and hands-on experience, this conversation examines how leading OEMs are rethinking foundational capabilities, from software support and software updates to security and device lifecycle management, to innovate faster, be more competitive, and ensure long-term product success.
