The Simplicity in Mender's Pricing Approach

Mender’s pricing is remarkably simple. You don’t need a complicated spreadsheet or a calculator anymore to estimate your monthly bill.

We have made it easy to match different needs of our customers with plans that not only go by scale but also by features more suitable for different phases of IoT product development, all with a fixed monthly pricing.

We offer four plans. The open source version where you pay nothing (free) and includes all the core features of what makes Mender a great OTA solution: robust, secure, and end-to-end. The Starter plan where you get all the benefits of the open source features with a secure server we host for you. The Professional plan, also hosted by Mender, gives more advanced features for quick and easy deployments at scale with limited budget. The Enterprise plan offers features with risk management and automation at its core with infrastructure options and SLA backed support you need to manage and deploy software updates remotely at scale.

We recommend the free open source version for small scale and do it yourself projects. We recommend the Starter plan for supporting rapid product development without the hassle of setting up and managing any backend infrastructure. Starter pricing starts at $29/month for up to 50 devices with support for more devices above 50. We recommend Professional plan for when entering the production phase and scaling up and includes features such as robust delta updates, automatic retry of deployments, Schedule deployments. Professional pricing starts at $249/month for up to 250 devices with support for more devices above 250. We recommend the Enterprise plan for larger organizations and more demanding products, in terms of acceptable risk level and interoperability with enterprise systems with features such as automatic assignment of delta updates, Phased rollout and Role-based access control. Enterprise is custom volume pricing based on your project and needs.

More importantly, however, is the total cost of ownership of an end-to-end OTA solution from research, development and implementation to support, maintenance and upgrades. Spending time and resources building a solution can divert focus from engineering teams to building the core features of a product and can lead to a mediocre OTA manager with devices at risk of being hacked or bricked. In addition, the complexity to product development is increased which can jeopardize time-to-market and product release launches. Adding all up with managing the backend server infrastructure, support and maintenance, the cost can go up to hundreds and thousands of dollars.

Building your own OTA update manager should no longer be an option. The new plans and simplified pricing give more flexibility to our customers helping them address their changing needs throughout the product development phases with ease and cost efficiency that surpasses their expectations.
